Soccer roundup

The University of Charleston women’s soccer team defeated Davis & Elkins 3-2 in overtime Wednesday at Triana Field.

Bailey Bryant scored the winning goal on a 30-yard shot 29 seconds into overtime to give the Golden Eagles the win in their season opener. Holly Dalton and Sharon Lipinski scored a goal apiece for UC.

Dant Cole scored both goals for the Senators (1-1). UC outshot D&E 16-6.

 

Whitney Sharp had four saves for the Golden Eagles while Jackie Crum tallied five for D&E. UC (1-0) will play Shippensburg at 1 p.m. Sunday at Triana Field.

High school boys

·         PARKERSBURG 2, RIVERSIDE 1: Keiran Spader and Michael Pitrolo each scored to lead Parkersburg to a 2-0 boys soccer win over Riverside.

·         Jeffrey Brenwald had 11 saves in goal for the Warriors (0-4-0) while Brent McGee and Spencer Griffey combined for seven saves for Parkersburg (5-2).

·          CATHOLIC 5, POINT PLEASANT 0: Visiting Charleston Catholic was led by goalkeepers Stephen Carey (three saves) and Christian Gerencir (one) for the shutout. The Irish (1-1) got goals from John Busse, Corey Bonasso, Eammon Mahr, Seth Ritchie, and Ethan Nelson. Jacob Sayre had seven saves for Point Pleasant (1-4).

·         GAME MOVED: The boys match between Nitro and Hurricane scheduled for today has been moved due to a bleacher problem at Nitro.

The match will be played at Hurricane High School at 6:15 p.m. Friday.
