MSAC soccer title games set this afternoon in Ripley

The Mountain
State Athletic Conference will crown its soccer champions today on the
artificial turf at Ripley High School.
Parkersburg (16-1-2), fourth in the state coaches association rankings, will face No. 5 George
Washington (15-2-2) at 1:30
p.m.
in the girls title game followed by No. 7 Hurricane (16-2-1) playing No. 4
Parkersburg (15-2-2) at 3:45
p.m.
in the boys title game. For schedule, see Page 2B.
No. 16 Nitro
(10-5-4) will take on No. 8 Hurricane (13-1-3) at 9 a.m. in the girls
third-place game followed by No. 10 George Washington (12-4-3) taking on No. 2
Woodrow Wilson at 11:15 a.m. in the boys third-place game.
Last year, Parkersburg blanked Cabell Midland
6-0 in the girls title game while Parkersburg shut out Huntington 2-0 for the boys
championship.
In the girls
division, George Washington edged defending state champion Parkersburg 2-1 on Aug. 23, but the
Big Reds have not been beaten since. The Patriots saw a 15-game unbeaten streak
come to an end with a 1-0 loss Sept. 29 to Morgantown.
On the boys side, defending state champion Parkersburg blanked Hurricane 3-0 to
hand the Redskins one of their two losses. The Big Reds also have not lost
since falling 2-1 at home to GW.
There will also
be two place-winner games today in the boys division. Capital plays at Nitro at
10 a.m. in the fifth-place game and South Charleston visits Princeton at 1
p.m.
in the ninth-place game.
