Girls' Soccer Suffers First Loss, 3-2
PARKERSBURG — In a rematch of last year’s state championship girls’
soccer match, Parkersburg prevailed once
again over Fairmont Senior on a humid Saturday afternoon.
The fourth-rated Big Reds dominated two-thirds of the match, but held on
for dear life to get past the top-rated Polar Bears, 3-2.
After playing to a scoreless tie in the opening half, Parkersburg scored three
unanswered goals through the first 20 minutes of the second half.
The Lady Polar Bears rallied with two goals over the final 20 minutes, but
it was too little too late for the Polar Bears.
Laura Dalton scored both goals for the Polar Bears, the first from about 20
yards out and the latter was a header on a corner kick from Lauren Retton.
Goalkeeper Alex Mascaro had an outstanding
performance in goal recording 11 saves for the Polar Bears (6-11), who
suffered their first defeat.
